The blank window that is not the ZIP
A missing MSVC runtime looks exactly like a corrupt download. The overlay never appears, and people hit redownload five times.
Install the latest supported x64 Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft, reboot if Windows asks, then run Kiddions elevated. Do not install random “all-in-one runtime packs” from ad pages. Those packs are a common malware wrapper and they do not replace a clean x64 runtime.
If the runtime is present and the overlay still dies instantly, check SmartScreen quarantine on safety and architecture on requirements. A 32-bit OS cannot load this line no matter how many times you reinstall VC++.
The blank-window screenshot is why people blame the ZIP. Confirm the redistributable first, then extraction and Story Mode timing on the guide. Microsoft’s own installer is the source; this site does not ship the runtime inside the overlay archive.
