Hotkeys that stay off WASD

The overlay is built so you can drive, tap a chord, then drive again. Defaults prefer the numpad and Insert so movement keys stay honest.

Hotkeys exist so the overlay does not steal WASD, camera look, or the face buttons you need to play. If a chord fights the game, rebind inside the modest tree — do not invent a Windows mouse-keys workaround on day one. The table below is the documented default set for the 1.0.1 line.

Laptops without a numpad

Insert is the documented laptop path. Some compact keyboards hide Insert behind an Fn layer; hold Fn if the key appears to do nothing, then try a rebind if the hardware never exposes Insert. Do not enable mouse-keys as a workaround on day one; it fights camera look. Full note: laptop.

Controller chords

Gamepad users should keep camera look on the right stick. The overlay chord is additive, not a stolen face button. If RB + D-pad up also triggers a Rockstar or Steam overlay, disable the storefront overlay for Grand Theft Auto V and retry. Details: controller.

If a capture tool, GeForce overlay, or Xbox Game Bar ate Insert, rebind inside the modest tree before you assume the ZIP is broken. Then check troubleshooting for display-mode causes that look like a dead hotkey: exclusive fullscreen, 4K scale, and a tree sitting off-canvas on ultrawide.

Rebind without breaking movement

Keep driving keys, handbrake, and camera look untouched. Prefer unused numpad keys, Pause, or a modifier chord you do not already use in Story Mode. After a rebind, close the overlay, confirm WASD still moves the protagonist, then reopen. A bind that only works while the tree is open is a conflict with the game, not a missing download.
