Spotting fake downloads
Hostile mirrors reuse this documentation’s words around a different binary. The checks below are concrete, not vibes.
A legitimate download is boring: one click, one ZIP named Kiddions_Modest_Menu_v1.01.zip, no second window. Treat any of the following as disqualifying rather than merely annoying.
- A countdown timer before the real link appears.
- A chain of link shorteners or ad gateways between the button and the file.
- A requirement to join Discord or clear checkpoints to get a key.
- A bundled browser extension or PC optimiser.
- A password-protected archive with the password posted in a video or on the same page. Encryption stops Windows from inspecting the contents until after you supply the password, which is the point of using it. This documentation’s package is not locked.
- A nested setup.exe or a second downloader inside the ZIP.
- A version number that does not match the changelog.
Confirm the Type of file line in Explorer says ZIP archive. Then extract under your user profile and follow the install guide. If a page copies this wording while serving a different file, report it via contact.
